On October 3, 2021, we celebrated our 6th Annual Blessing of the Animals Service in St. John's "barking lot." We had 7 humans, 3 dogs, and 1 cat in attendance, and blessed 'in absentia' 8 cats and 3 dogs. Although we're still maintaining many safety precautions for our indoor worship, we did not have to wear masks outside this year! Part of the joy of this event is fellowshipping after the liturgy and hearing so many animal-rescue stories.

On October 4, 2020, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, we held our 5th Annual Blessing of the Animals Service--our first activity outside of worship since the pandemic upended our parish life in March 2020. Although the humans had to wear masks and socially distance, a great time was had by all! Eleven people, four dogs, and two cats attended, and other furry family members were blessed "in absentia." We also observed a moment of silence to remember those pets who crossed over the rainbow bridge
since we last gathered.

On Sunday, September 15, 2019, St. John's Church, Compass celebrated our 290th Anniversary in Ministry for Christ. The Mass of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist, Rite II, was led by the Rt. Rev. Daniel G. P. Gutierrez, XVI Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. He was assisted by the Rev. Joan Wylie, Deacon at Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity, Coatesville, and our Rector, the Rev. Dr. Nina George-Hacker.
Three adults were confirmed into the Church; the Choir sang three anthems; and our Organist, Richard Hacker, was accompanied by trumpeter Vincent Shickora. We received congratulatory proclamations from Tom Wolfe, Governor of Pennsylvania; the Pennsylvania State Senate; and U.S. Senator Pat Toomey. These were read aloud at the service.
A delicious lunch followed, at which old friends reunited, and members and guests shared remembrances as they were able to peruse hundreds of historical photographs on display.
Thanks be to God for His faithfulness, and to all those who have shone the light of Christ on this hill in Compass for nearly 300 years!

On Sunday, October 7, 2018, we celebrated the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with our 3rd Blessing of the Animals Service, attended by: 13 humans; 4 dogs; 2 cats; a parakeet; and a horse! Also, we blessed 11 cats "in absentia."
On July 14, 2018, we hosted 17 children for "PandaMania!" Vacation Bible School--"Where God is Wild about You!"--led by 15 adults and older youth volunteers. A great time was had by all!
On May 5, 2018, we were blessed to host 32 women--two thirds of whom were not St. John's members--at our first Ladies' Tea. We celebrated women, tea, and spring, with delicious sweets & savories, spring flowers, and delightful fellowship.
On Maundy Thursday, March 29, 2018, we hosted our first Messianic Seder, attended by 23 parishioners. This re-enactment of a Passover Meal such as Jesus celebrated with His Disciples at the Last Supper helped all of us to understand better this important night in Holy Week.
Holy Week 2018 at St. John's was a glorious celebration of Jesus Christ's final days on Earth, His Crucifixion, and Resurrection. So many members made this possible, and we are very thankful for their gifts and talents.
